MANAGEMENT FUNCTION -influence-

What is INFLUENCE ?

Influence is the capacity or power of persons or things to be a compelling force on or produce effects on the actions, behavior, opinions of others.

In a work place the leader is the one who be responsible to Create a positive attitude towards the work and goals in among the members of the organisation is called influencing . It is required as it helps to serve the objective of effectiveness and efficiency by changing the behaviours of the employees.

Influencing involves a number of deferment processes and activates. The functions of direction, motivation, communication, and coordination are considered a part of leading process or system.

INFLUENCE IN LEADERSHIP

Leaders lead by mobilizing people around a compelling vision of the future, by inspiring them to follow in the leader's footsteps. They show people what's possible and motivate them to make those possibilities real. They energize and focus people in ways that fulfill their dreams, give them a sense of purpose, and leave them with a profound sense of accomplishment when the work is done. The best leaders are teachers, mentors, and role models--and they accomplish the vast majority of their work through influence, not authority.

IMPORTANCE OF INFLUENCE

Everyone has a boss as well as peers. To be successful, one must be able to work effectively with any or most of them. The lifeblood of this process is influence. In all likelihood, to be successful at your job, you must be able to "sell" an idea or project, persuade coworkers or peers to provide support and/or resources, or get people to do something that they may not necessarily want or need to do. The ability to move others to achieve important objectives is most effective if you can find a way to couch it in terms where everyone wins (you, me, and the organization). An underlying principle of persuasion is that people expect reciprocity in the process. To be able to persuade effectively, you must create win-win trades when in difficult situations or when dealing with difficult individuals or groups.

HOW TO BUILD INFLUENCE IN WORKPLACE ?

THERE ARE 7 WAYS TO BUILD INFLUENCE IN WORKPLACE, THEY ARE :

  1. Build Trust With Your Co-Workers. Influence is most often and most easily carried through trust.
  2. Cultivate Reliability Through Consistency. Inconsistency is the fastest way to ruin your reputation. Consistency, on the other hand, is slow but sure--if you execute your tasks effectively and on time, day after day, eventually people will come to rely on you.
  3. Be Assertive, Not Aggressive. Being assertive is the only way to get your ideas noticed, especially when you're competing with others for visibility, such as in a meeting.
  4. Be Flexible. Flexibility is also important. While this may seem like it conflicts with the need to be assertive--after all, it's difficult to assert yourself fully if you're open to changing your opinion--being too stringent or adamant in your beliefs will work against you.
  5. Be Personal. A little personality goes a long way, especially when you're trying to build influence in the workplace.
  6. Focus on Actions Rather Than Argument. Trying to build influence through words is useless.you need to speak through your actions, or at the very least have the actions and history to back up whatever it is you're saying.
  7. Listen to Others. Finally, remember that influence is a two-way street. The more you believe in the people around you and incorporate their ideas into your vision, the more they'll believe in your ideas and incorporate them into their work habits.

In conclusion, influence is important for leadership and management. All leaders need to have this skill to ensure the organization keep going forward and be beyond the best. As per what Jim Rohn said,

DON'T MISTAKE THE POWER OF INFLUENCE
